Rower prepares for Pacific challenge

March 17th 2004

A former royal marine is about to embark on the trip of a lifetime and hopefully make it into the record books.

Mick Dawson from Boston in Lincolnshire is hoping to become the first person to row single-handedly across the Pacific.

He has already rowed across the Atlantic with his brother, but this time he faces a much tougher challenge - six months alone, rowing more than 6,000 miles without a stop.

He is due to head out to Japan at the end of April.
