Rower seeks celebrity for rowing challenge

April 19th 2004

A Nottinghamshire businessman is giving up the day job to row across the Atlantic Ocean and is throwing down the gauntlet for a celebrity helper to volunteer to come with him.

Andrew Morris wants to enter the Cross Atlantic Challenge, 3,300 miles of hard rowing.

Andrew said : "It's something I feel as if I ought to do, I went to the start of the last race in January and was in absolute awe at all those little boats going across 3,300 miles and so I thought right, do it for charity and get stuck in and start."

But Andrew does not want to do it alone. He is looking for a celebrity partner to go on the voyage with him and thinks it beats a weekend in the outback anyday.

"This is a real challenge, if you are a celebrity you would be doing it for your own reasons as well as for charity. It is a real test of your own character, because it really is a 'once in a lifetime' opportunity. It would change your life - whales, dolphins, flying fish, incredible sunsets, 40 or 50 feet waves to deal with."

Now begins the 18 months of hard training and the hope someone will answer his call and help him raise thousands of pounds for charity.
