Hi Tori, my daughter and I are fascinated with your journey- particularly
your story about the porpoises swimming around you! The night sky must be
terrific! I work for the Ky. Dept. of Fish and Wildlife and we do a kid's
show during the school year called Ky. Afield for Kids on KET- we will
follow your progress and talk about your courage and tell kids to follow
your story- maybe you can share your experiences with us when you get back!
We are very proud of you and look forward to your journals when they appear
on the internet. Thanks for representing our country and state! Good

I am keeping up on your trip via the internet. It is a shame
that you are not getting more publicity than you are. I admire what
you are doing. I have been involved in power lifting and cross country
running for about twenty years now and I admire the fortitude that you
must have. May God keep you in the palm of his hand and a warm gentle

Your ability to inspire crosses gender lines as well as all other lines.
As much as I loved rowing in our mixed double, I am even more inspired by
your courage and strength to see something like this through. And I have
no doubt you will see this through. I just found out through a Louisville
friend about your quest. She sent me an article from the July 8 Courier
Journal. Coincidentally (I won't call it more than that), I have begun a
"quest" of my own, to own the sub-20-minute 5,000M on the Concept II. Not
much of a quest, perhaps, but it will help me think of you as I work out.
Best of luck, because you may need some of that too. But knowing you,
you'll break a speed record before you're through.
Anyway, I'll look you up when you're back. Enjoy the show.

Hi, Tori--
My private name is Teri Gimmel, but if you have ever heard of me, it
was probably as Teri McLaren, John Hale's writer friend. He told me
of your plans to take this journey just before summer in 1997, and I
have watched your progress since then through the media and reports
from John. I just wanted you to know that upon your departure, God
put it on my heart to pray for you, and I do so every time He brings
you to mind. Remember how much He loves and cares for you, and that
He has given you a spirit of love and courage and of sound mind, not
a spirit of fear, and that your weapons are not carnal, but spiritual
and mighty for the pulling down of strongholds. You can do all
things through Him who strengthens you.

Very interesting diet Tori has planned. 10-12 energy bars a day!
She'll either love or hate them by the time she finishes her historic

I am just a fan, that is rowing all the way with you in my Spirit. You
are just so great. My thoughts and prayers are with you every minute.
I ran marathon's until Nov. 14, 1996, when a drunk driver hit my car,
total out my tibia, fibula and all cartilage, but made it back teaching
senior aerobics and chair exercise. Surgery, to fuse the ankle joints,
they say, will take away the pain and help me get back to a normal
life. Hey, since I could no longer run, I got envolved with Dragon Boat
racing. I love the sport. We pracitice year around, what a great
work-out. I love to challenge the body, and I always say We can do all
things, through him who strengthens us. Have a spirit filled trip,
Tori. I will catch your up-dates. Wasn't sure if I should e-mail our
not, but decided I wanted to say, You Go Girl! :-)

I am not, nor is it likely that I ever will be, a rower. I have a daughter
at the Univ of Miami who was on the women's novice crew team her freshman year so I do have
some knowledge of the rigors of rowing. It certainly seems to work your whole
body, including your mind, at the same time! I admire you for the conditioning you
have been doing - probably for years - to feel up to a row across the ocean! It is
truely inspiring to see someone like you dream a dream and then go for it. I look
forward to the day I can read that your dream has become reality!!!! Best
wishes for a safe crossing!
